Using a scraper or other suitable tool remove all traces of liquid gasket from the cylinder block and front cover mating surfaces. Now this isnt really necessary, as you can use the timing marks on the main pulley. Install lower chain tensioner and remove the pin securing the piston into the tensioner body. one of the best ways to find top dead center is to take the valve cover off and turn the engine by the crank pulley bolt until the front 4 cam lobes are facing outward at a 90 degree angle from the head. 2: Locating Ignition Timing Marks (V6) Courtesy of Nissan Motor Co., U.S.A. Install chain guide and chain tension arm. D - ADJUSTMENTS loosen hold-down bolt and turn distributor to adjust ignition timing. The KA24E came in 2.0- and 2.4-liter versions and was used in many Nissan autos, including: the 240SX, Pathfinder, Stanza and Nissan trucks. The KA24E was a workhorse engine in Nissan automobiles from 1988 until 2004. Install the idler sprocket and lower timing chain using the mating marks and the paint marks made during the removal process. also the distributor is facing number 1 plug also, put it all together and it should start right up. you have to use the second timing mark from left on the crank pulley and make sure number 1 cylinder is TDC. Remove the lower timing chain and sprocket. i literaly just got done doing the timing on my ka24e. Wipe off the links of the timing chain next to the timing marks on the sprockets. Put paint marks on the timing chain, matching them with the timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and idler sprocket (see Figure 3).

Remove the upper timing chain (refer to "Removal of Upper Timing Chain" in this bulletin). Lower timing chain tensioner (push tensioner piston in and insert a suitable pin into the hole to retain the tensioner piston in the tensioner body). Remove the oil pump and distributor drive shaft, then the oil pickup strainer.īe careful not to tear or damage the cylinder head gasket.
